Apple Dumplings Recipe
Ingredients (Makes 8 dumplings):
For the Dumplings:
-
2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well)
-
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or homemade dough)
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
3/4 cup soda (like Mountain Dew, Sprite, or 7-Up — trust the process!)
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
-
Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Prepare the Apples:
-
Peel, core, and cut each apple into 8 wedges.
-
You’ll have 16 apple slices in total.
3. Wrap the Apples:
-
Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles.
-
Wrap each triangle around 2 apple slices (or 1 if you prefer smaller dumplings).
-
Pinch to seal and place seam-side down in the baking dish.
4. Make the Sauce:
-
In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
-
Stir in sugar and cinnamon (don’t boil).
-
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
5. Pour & Add Soda:
-
Pour the cinnamon-butter sauce over the dumplings.
-
Then, pour soda along the edges of the dish — not directly on top of the dumplings.
6. Bake:
-
Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve:
-
Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.
-
The sauce turns into a sweet syrup that soaks into the dumplings!
Optional Variations:
-
Add chopped nuts inside for crunch.
-
Use homemade biscuit or pie dough instead of crescent rolls.
-
Try with pears or peaches for a twist!
